#Terrible performance with AMD card

I haven't played RaceRoom in a long time (couple years) and i just can't get it to run well at all after coming back. The only PC component i've swapped in the meantime is my gpu from a 980TI to a 7800XT, and i remember back then i had +100FPS, now with cars on track i'm barely hitting 30.. Any reason for why? With all settings to absolute minimum i can barely hit 60.
I have zero performance issue with other games or simracing title.

Things i've tried so far:

I have verified files on steam

Uninstalled it and deleted my documents/my games/simbin folder

And reinstalled the game. And it runs just absolutely terrible.

Tried all the boot methods for the game, 64bit, 32bit dxvk etc

All my drivers etc are up to date.

Did you use DDU to remove old driver and install new one for AMD?
Did you enable Rebar?
although We had some other guys also report this, other don't face this problems with their newer harder. Does all your game show GPU zero?
Try install presentmon and see what is bottlenecking hard.

It's intel things. However there is work around for make it work. Rebar code come with PCI-E version 2 and if you know what it needed you can enable it. ( some bios give options and make it easy, some need you to edit some parameter in frameware that is very high level. Just careful, read all the comment. At first glance I saw you need to be in CSM off and your harddisk need to be in GPT mode.)

Beside that from what I saw GPU knows it need full power but the rendering time and GPU utilization look strange.
I can extract more information if you interest.
I will give my config setup for presentmon to have more opstions. Then try to record you screen with obs and run a replay race and see how it will behave and make a record and upload it. Also check if it you have same behavior in single car mode ( no AI ) or not. Give me a min, I need to boot my PC

Go To presentmon custom section. At end of list ( down) there is save and load. Load mine and you will have more options.

I'm in the settings menu but i can't find the option to input anything

So I just checked csm was off and disk is also correct format

BTW do you still have your old gpu?

hazy bobcat
#

No I don't have it anymore

Forcing certain graphics enhancers via gpu driver can cause massive issues. I remember one case where forcing anisotropic filtering broke the game.

  • So if you still have some custom profile for RR from yonks ago, delete it.
  • If you force some settings globally, create a RR profile and don't force anything/let the app handle the features like aniso, aa and so forth.

I havent done either at any point

I'm gonna try tomorrow and do a fresh install of windows on a different drive and see if that does anything just out of interest

I'm really not sure you need to force-insert Resizeable BAR for the game to work properly

#

can you check GPU power consumption in your hardware monitor?

Try a clean windows install

Reinstalling Windows did not mean any performance gain

okay so i got rebar enabled finally. After fiddling with my bios, and yea it's definitely improved. I still think it's low considering how old this game is but 70 fps is at least playable

# hazy bobcat okay so i got rebar enabled finally. After fiddling with my bios, and yea it's d...

With RX570 I can reach 150fps with my setting if I do not limit my fps.( at the moment I cap to 120fps.)
There is something wrong with your cpu busy and gpu waiting. It's like something limit the processing power. the fps is also very strange. It's like it's cap to 75 fps.
Look at mine with very old hardware: ( start from 4:24)

I also recommend you to enable the overlay after you are in driver mode. not when you are in garage. The garage page have effect on reading.

that was in driver mode

#

the screenshot was taken on the grid

wym? The overlay is running all the time. The screenshot was taken when i was on the grid in a race with other cars around

#

i'll record a video in a sec

#

for comparison this is taken on the same track, same car, same amount of cars and higher graphics settings in AMS2.

distant schooner

It is better to make it active manually after you go in driver mode so that it does not show spike like this. ( raceroom have web overlay which affect the fps reading if you run it from start of the game.)

#

Also, it is look like you fps is behaving like it is half sync

I have to agree here, CPU utilisation looks very odd indeed. RR is very CPU-intense and especially with lots of AIs on track the avg load should be much higher.

Any BIOS customisations in place?

hazy bobcat

that's it

#

i haven't set up my controls so excuse the poor driving lol

but why only in that game

doesn't really make sense to me

Welcome to the world of software.😁 You need to ask AMD and Microsoft for that.😅
At least it didn't burn your hardware yet.😬
I have an idea to give you a way. maybe it can help you to force bypass setting and make it work.
1- Go to adrenaline>gaming>game. you should have "raceroom racing experience there."
click on it and see how it look like( if you want, post it here.) This one only affect the UI overlay and 32 bit mode, not 64bit. You need to add the exe file manually.

#

2 go again to adrenaline>gaming>game. this time from top right press"add a game" and go to the game folder. and choose the RRRE64.exe
The address probably like this:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\raceroom racing experience\Game\x64

3:after it added to list click on it. now you can control the game render. first, post the screenshot to see how it look like then change this step by step and see if there is any affect or not. ( I post my setting as an example)

  • wait for Vertical refresh -> always off or off unless application specifics
  • radeon Enhanced sync on, it will disable the upper one. and have different effect
  • radeon anti-lag on, can be combine by upper options.
  • radeon chills can't work with radeon chill but give you control over fps min and max fps cap.
  • AMD freesync, check different options and see is there any affect or not

4:for future people who want to have control over dxvk mode:
-sadly both exe files have same name and if you choose one of them, it will overrite the setting of other one instead of adding new one. dev need to change the name of exe file so that we can have both of them in driver panel.
