My pedals just died on me.
So I am using my gear pads for braking and throttle.
Is there any settings I ought to change when not having analog input anymore?

if the game treats your paddles like it treats keyboard inputs, then throttle sensitivity and brake sensitivity is what I would look at. when applied to digital inputs, sensitivity changes how long it takes to reach 100% after you pressed the button. for keyboard driving my throttle sens is set to 20-30%, brake sens is at 40%.
there's also throttle release and brake release, they change how long it takes to go down to 0% after you released the button
one thing though. on the settings screen, at the top of it, you can see your inputs. with keyboard controls, these inputs move like 3 times slower than they actually do in the game. so ignore them. instead go out on the track, turn on the input meter widget and look there, check if sensitivity is set how you want it to be

What numbers do you use for release?

throttle return 70%
brake return 60%
although I really don't know if these values are better or I'm just used to them. you can try reducing brake return sens, this will make the brakes release more slowly to imitate some sort of trail braking, but at the same time it can feel weird when the car still brakes when you obviously released the brake paddle
