and generally, if you're way off the top pace, you should not necessarily fiddle with setups. the default setups are quite nice already and can be used to gain the biggest chunk of time on a lap.
I'd start with a default/spec setup and learn driving basics first such as driving line, braking and acceleration zones. And focus on being consistent instead of fast. I know that sounds a little backwards, but consistency does win races.
