Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
I think some of it might be kept intentionally, the "at me too someone is saying", using "he" for an unknown person.
This could happen naturally in English since literature is its own special place, but I think since the structure was chosen that way in french for a reason, they may have avoided putting it "back in its place" to try to retain a similar feel? Or it could just be a very lazy direct translation, but I definitely see what you're talking about
