Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

"aimer" is basically the way to go, but the verb has many nuances

when you're talking about people, using "aimer" on its own is at its strongest, and generally expresses familial or romantic love. adding anything will soften it. That's also how you express liking someone, usually by adding "bien" as a modifier.

je l'aime => I love him/her
je l'aime bien => I like him/her
je l'aime beaucoup => I like him/her a lot

#

when you're talking about things, "aimer" can be strong, but tend to be more neutral. You can still soften it with modifiers, but adverbs like "beaucoup" actually amplify it this time around.

In that instance, do pets have the same rules as people?
