Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
ça c'est une contraction
Parce que le mot "avion" commence par une voyelle
Le or la turns into l' when the next word starts with a vowel or a mute H.
Avion starts with a vowel, so l' is used instead of le.
(Do note that the mute H is only a grammar convention, you don't pronounce the H in any case.)
Thanks yall, that clears things up
that phenomenon is called elision, and happens with many other small words: ne, que, de, me, te, se...
it's also mandatory
Most things with a pronounced schwa at the end, I think
c’est
cet
it's the only counter example i can think of
Le : est pour les noms masculins
L’ : vient avant une voyelle ou un h meut
