Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Gender-inclusive nouns and ajectives
What specifically are you having trouble with? There's more than one way to use inclusive language…
How do you form gender neutral nouns and adjectives? For example how would I say étudiant jeun in a gender-inclusive way?
that dictionary will give you options, but none of them are considered "standard"
great site thank you! but how do you pronounce something like étudiant·e?
you don't lol
that's part of the problem with inclusive forms
there's no way to pronounce them
oh shit
in reality you'd say something like "l'étudiant ou l'étudiante"
French just isn't set up grammatically to allow for this kind of stuff
OR you use a form that is gender neutral
élève, for instance can be either "un élève" or "une élève"
So you can write in such a way that the implied gender isn't known
But it's a pain in the ass
yeah these are probably the best options, but can be quite hard with little vocabulary
I wouldn't get worked up about it as a beginner
Even natives are often unsure how they can word things to be neutral
yeah i guess so xD thank you though 🙏
