Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
The imperfect tense is used for old habits.
"Je sortais."
You can add "avant" or "j'avais l'habitude de" to make it clearer.
"Avant, je sortais."
"J'avais l'habitude de sortir."
note that unlike with "used to," with the imperfect there's not quite the same intrinsic implication that you don't do it now, unless you add more context.
for example, just saying "je mangeais du pain" in no way implies that you don't eat bread now
whereas if you just said "i used to eat bread" with no additional context we would assume you don't eat bread anymore
ohhh
