Hmmm pour moi les deux sont correctes, mais il y a une nuance
« a sonné » → l'alarme a émis un bruit qui t'a réveillé, on peut imaginer que c'était court mais fort
« sonnait » → l'alarme sonnait de manière continue, on peut imaginer que même après que tu t'es réveillé, l'alarme continuait à sonner
