Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
"de" can be used to indicate a mean or manner an action is performed, following the verb and followed by a noun
dessiner de la main gauche to draw left-handed
regarder d’un air admiratif to look at admiringly
prepositions have multiple use cases and aren't limited to one. "de" itself has over 10: https://www.lawlessfrench.com/grammar/de-preposition/
The French preposition de is generally summarized as "of, from, or about," but it has quite a few more meanings and uses than that. - Lawless French
Oui yeah it has hellaaaa but I was just confused in this part because if how it was like wrote ig in that case I thought it couldn't be written like that cause it wasn't talking about a object like someone talking about cause I was studying up on de and en are used to introduce the material from which ab object is made and it said how de was used well usually used to to indicate a type of object one is talking about then I started surfing prepositions in adverbial clauses of manner and that's when I read up on that and it wasn't talking about a specific topic so I was just confused
wait, so what's your question exactly? in short
(if you have several type them out separately)
Why is it sentenced like this this the example it gave me il me regarde d'un air furieux
I was confused because on this context i thought d could only be used if it was talking about a object
And it wasn't thats why I was confused
De
well, this use case of "de" is what I explained above
it indicates a means or manner an action is performed.
[verb] + de + [noun] is the construction for it. It answers the question "what are you using to perform the action"
regarder (look at) + d' + un air furieux (a furious look)
the action being to look at, you are performing the action using a furious look/glance
Je comprend merci beaucoup! 😄
