Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

duolingo can be good for the very beginning, but pretty quickly it slows down to a crawl and even actively tries to prevent you from learning.

imo there's no app that tops unstructured self-study. All you really need is

  • a place to talk like this discord
  • a dictionary like wordref (other reference material like lawlessfrench for grammar and forvo for pronounciation can help too)
  • a source of content like youtube or a book

if you really want something to give you more structure, I've heard good things about kwiziq, busuu and anki, but again, I personally don't use them and find that they mostly just get in my way.

I've found textbooks and free courses on youtube to be better than things like anki, but so far nothing has been better than learning random words and just attempting to narrate my day and remember random poetry lol

If it’s just for a short trip, it’s probably more time efficient to just learn phrases you’ll need. Hi/hello/thanks/bye, where is blah, want to order blah, sorry do you speak English, yes/no, help, I’m lost

From my experience, I'd say that Airlearn is a better app rather than Duolingo as it offers a better path of progression and also you can check any words that you've learned at any time. So if you need additional support it may help you
