Using prendre with a reflexive pronoun like this is a way to convey the meaning of something making someone act a certain way that you don’t have a reasonable understanding of

Qu’est ce qu'il te prend de me frapper ≈ what has gone through your head just now that you decided to hit me?

"Qu’est ce qui te prend" is also a valid way to say that I think
