Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

You mean faut i assume

#

Ok so the subjunctive has many different use cases but in general you use it with verbs that express a wish, a hope, a probability, a necessity etc... 😵‍💫
Many different verbs, but I don't recommend getting into all that at this stage.

#

For now, it's useful to focus only on the verb « falloir » (il faut), to understand sentences like:
(1) « Il faut que tu viennes ! »
(2) « Il faut un peu d'eau »
(3) « Il faut manger beaucoup »

#

Basically, you start with « il faut » and then you add whatever is needed or required. In (2), the thing that's required is « un peu d'eau » (a bit of water). In (3), the thing that's required is an action : « manger beaucoup ». And in (1), you use que in order to add a subordinate clause (basically another sentence)...
First il faut, then que, then tu viennesit's imperative/necessary - that - you come.

#

The verb venir must be in the subjonctif, so instead of tu viens, you write tu viennes.

#

Any other, specific questions?

Yes we do use the subjunctive

#

It's an essential part of the language

i believe the question was about how ? You read too quickly ?

#

Or well, i guess you tackled another alternative so now thats out of the way

J'ai capté

To add, the subjunctive is used only in a subordinate clause so you'll need to think of a trigger verb

chrome apex
#

Ahh yess good addition

#

In sentences (2) and (3) there is no subjunctive, good to take note of

#

A trigger verb is a verb that is like what Delpher said: a wish (Je souhaite que tu sois là), probability (Il est possible qu'il soit en retard), necessity (J'ai besoin que tu sois ici maintenant !), order (Je veux que tu partes)

#

Notice again that the subjunctive is always preceded by « que » which is the conjunction you use to start a subordinate clause
