“Est-ce que” and inversion are both used to ask questions but with different levels of formality (inversion is more formal, est-ce que is less formal).

Est-ce que is similar to Do or literally is it that

Inversion is the same but with a verb liaison subject like Pouvez-vous or Aimes-tu or something (Can you and Do you like respectively)
