Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

comprehensible input is the bread and butter of learning quickly and efficiently

#

it's simply watching and reading stuff of which you understand 80-95% of the words

#

and looking up the words you don't understand, as many as you can stomach per day

#

that mostly covers reading and listening, you still have to practice writing and speaking to cover all the bases

#

there's not really a best way to practice those that i know of, just continually practice what you're bad at and eventually you won't have anything you're bad at. like you're probably bad at everything at first so it doesn't matter what you do, but if you practice by chatting in discord all day eventually you'll be good at that, so you want to switch to writing essays or something to make sure you're making the most efficient use of your time. it's just about always challenging yourself and adapting to your personal needs

#

knowing how to learn is a skill in and of itself

#

the most important thing is honestly not the methods you use to learn, but your motivation. Finding the right motivation for you is what will ultimately make learning french possible

#

when people "fail" (ie. give up) learning french, it's generally not because they used the wrong method, it's because they lost motivation.

#

so think about what motivates you and how you can increase that motivation

I recently got the idea to use Gemini live conversations. I explained that I am a learner and need basic conversations on french and Gemini delivered. I haven't managed to slow down Geminis talking speed, but I guess I will have to upgrade my comprehension.

About motivation: I am managed get to work in an office in France for 2 weeks, so that is a huge motivator. Also, I am doing a day trip to Luxembourg. I live in the south-west of Germany, so it's not that hard to get into french-speaking territory. I think what I am trying to say is: maybe set a reward goal like going to a place where they speak French. This always helped me.
