Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

Yes
You're an absolute beginner, so it is probably recommended to learn the absolutely basic phrases. learn for example:
Basic greetings
How to introduce yourself
Simple Q&A (how are you? I'm well/ where do you live? I live in../ how many brothers or sisters, favourite colour, pets.
So the basic facts about yourself and then some fun facts. As an absolute beginner, that's what you should focus on. Learn them, learn how to pronounce them, and practice a basic conversation with somebody.
The rest (the basic verbs, basic grammar, and skills like describing your routine, a picture, or ordering at a restaurant) comes later. Self studying can indeed be overwhelming because you don't have someone to simply take you by the hand.
As for a free resource, people generally recommend LawlessFrench, a website. I also highly recommend the YouTube Channel EasyFrench and look for any video with 'basics' or 'beginner' in the title. Theres probably a playlist for beginners, too. The videos are good for learning how words are pronounced.
