And i understand "pick up on" to mean like "notice" or "be aware of" so I don't really get that translation by wordref

I guess with the examples + the literal meaning of rebondir it's starting to make sense, in English i might say pick up/continue [where x left off] for the case of a discussion, or riff on/improvise based on for the use in the video if I'm understanding correctly

to me in this case it means something like "play around with x" or "make x a central theme"

Riff on is a pretty good way to describe it
