I would think that colloquial grammar hasn't changed. Colloquial vocabulary on the other hand evolves much quicker. So if those books focus on grammar, then you're fine.

There's surely some things that are out of date, but like Kitties said it's the vocabulary that's the most dangerous.

In any case, it can't hurt to learn any of that and at the end of the day, the only way to learn how people actually speak is to speak with them.
