Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
However it is correct if miss means not hit, just pass by someone/something without touching them. Basically a physical thing.
Here you were obviously going for the emotional miss. So what Bertie said.
The subject and the object in French are inverted compared to English. That's because while miss is a transitive verb, manquer is intransitive in this sense.
So, when you say mes chiens vont me manquer, you say your dogs are missing to you so you feel the emotional lack of them.
