vacation and location article/preposition
(1) Yes « vacances » is always plural in the sense of 'vacation' or 'holiday' – a period in which you are freed from the obligation of working
(2) Because cities generally aren't gendered, they won't have an article. That's why we have « à Paris » but « au Sénégal » for instance.
It gets murkier when we talk about feminine singular countries and vowel-initial ones but that's the gist of it
