Thing is that if you're doing a listening test – a well-designed test – there should be context

« Ici, à Paris, il existe des femmes dans la rue qui vagabondent. Les Parisiens les ont vues bizarrement. Pourquoi ces femmes vagabondent-elles et pourquoi à Paris ? Nous avons décidé de demander à un piéton et il nous a dit : « Bah, [elles parlent/elle parle] anglais, pas français. Elles ont aucune idée où aller. »»

You know that it should be « elles parlent » because:
(1) The excerpt talks about « des femmes » not « une femme »
(2) The first question talked about « ces femmes » not « cette femme »
(3) The pedestrian said « elles ont » not « elle a »

I see, merci. Something like « Où sont les filles? » « Elles sont au parc » would also be an acceptable test for hearing

This issue of having the same singular/plural is mostly a first conjugation thing (-er)
