Yes, the object pronoun is based on whether it's direct or not (+ preposition + if the object is animate or not, depending on situation), whether or not the object has an article doesn't come into play
It's also grammatically correct to write "parler le français", it's just not idiomatic in most contexts

It doesn't even have to be a noun, e.g. "je suis grand", "je le suis"
