Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
what are the situations i should use tu in and what are the situations I should use toi in?
Well tu is like the noun you'd use for a verb, like "tu joues" you are playing. Toi is more like the noun you'd use for other situations. Moi et toi. I cant think of a situation I'd use toi on the top of my head but just in situations where you dont use tu
If you get me
Is it like when describing a situation thats currently happening you use tu
and situation which happened earlier as toi?
More like
Tell you = dit toi
You say = tu dis
I thought this was pretty basic in Doulingo
Well not like they specifically explain in detail anyways
Tu is a subject pronoun
Tu manges -> tu is the subject
Toi is a stressed pronoun which is used for a number of things
Je pense à toi -> Here toi is the indirect object
Toi, tu cours bien -> Here it's being used for emphasis
okay okay so for anyone thats seeing this in the future, this might be confusing but
In French, "tu" and "vous" (not "toi") both mean "you," but they are used differently:
"Tu" is informal and singular, used with friends, family, or people of the same age/group.
"Vous" is formal or plural. It shows respect (e.g., with strangers, elders, or authority figures) or refers to multiple people.
"Toi" is the stressed form of "tu" and is used for emphasis, like "you" in "And you?" ("Et toi ?").
formal/informal isn't totally the best way to think about it. It's more about social distance
;tu
so "Tu" is used for close or familiar relationships, while "vous" maintains a level of respect or distance, even in some informal settings right
exactly
like, you'd use vous with the cashier at the grocery store, but that's hardly a formal setting
or a stranger on the bus
lol so if i say tu are they gonna jump me xD
no, they just might think you're rude (or don't speak french well)
