Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
not that you said otherwise, but in case you didn't know the prince was originally written in italian not french
likewise meditatons on first philosophy was originally written in latin but the french translation was supervised by descartes
I did know about the Meditations Latin origins, though I was under the impression Le Prince was French for some reason. :P
Thanks for the correction
maybe because of le petit prince?
not sure exactly what kind of advice you're looking for, but you definitely want to shift your focus away from duolingo if you hope to able to read full length book any time soon
it seems like you're committed to this as a project, assimil is kind of the gold standard of language learning textbook, but it can be expensive to get your hands on it
you can probably find a pdf online... somewhere... but really any textbook is better than no textbook
for vocabulary, anki is great, but physical flashcards or just writing down vocab in a note book is really helpful too
this may not be popular, but i'd say just buy the books in french and english
you're probably not going to be able to teach yourself from A2 just from the books, but if you're goal is to read them, reading them in French will help you
having read them in english will help with your comprehension of the french
plus if this is something you're really interested in, then using it as a way to mark your progress and motivate you is also useful
hadn't thought to read it 'twice' but you make a good point, that would probably make a big difference
all of these have very good english translations, although it might be hard to find a copy with facing translations where the sentences line up
I'll look into each of your suggestions, thanks a lot! I have a copy of the Bravo! textbook from my studies so I will keep using that until I can get my hands on an Assimil copy
there are better and worse textbooks, but you want to use everything at your disposal and it will not harm your french to use an imperfect textbook
likewise, there's better and worse uses of your time, but the most important thing is that you're reading french sentences and learning new things
Appreciate it :)
