"le porche" in French refers to the part that covers the area in front of the entrance of a building or house.
So the area itself is under it.

example:

The roof-like structure is "un porche".

So if you're standing in front of the door, you're "sous le porche". And if you're climbing on top of the roof thing for some reason, you're "sur le porche".
