But the issue is more general in that prepositions ARE NOT easily translatable. How a language uses its prepositions will be different from another, and though some may overlap, some may not.

As an example, in English we use the preposition 'in' to describe an adverb of manner:
'He looked at me in a disgusting way.'
In French, we use « de ».
« Il m'a regardé de manière dégoutante. »

I wouldn't say that « de » means 'in', but rather that the two use different prepositions to describe the same idea
