Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

Je vais is correct while je parti is not

#

Je suis parti however, is correct

#

Je vais is the verb aller (to go).
Je suis parti is the verb partir (to leave)

#

However I would translate them like this in english:
"Je vais quelque part" = "I go somewhere"
"Je suis parti" = "I'm gone"
"Je suis parti à la montagne" = "I went to (literally left for) the mountains"

#

So to sum up, je vais means you're going somewhere, while je suis parti means you left a place (to go somewhere else).

also, "je vais" is not complete on its own

#

you can't just say "Je vais" in french, there has to be an object

#

"J'y vais" (I'm going [there]) or "Je m'en vais" (I'm leaving [from here])
