Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
- "bonsoir" doesn't mean goodbye, it only means "hello" in the evening. The "goodbye" equivalent is "bonne soirée", which is what you say in the evening when parting ways.
- "au revoir" is a generic "goodbye"
- and "salut" is a casual "bye". It can also be used as a casual "hi".
In general you'd only say "salut" to someone you're on "tu" terms with
hmm i see, where you would use salut is if you like already know that person while au revoir is more reserved for strangers?
