Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
le/la/les are definite articles. They're for referring to specific instances of something. (usually but not always translated as "the")
un/une/des are indefinite articles. They're for referring to any instances of something. (usually but not always translated as "a/an/some" or no article)
le chat de Thomas => Thomas' cat (you're talking about one specific cat, Thomas')
des chats sont venus => some cats came (a group of cats came, could be any)
les chats sont partis => the cats are gone (you're talking about specific cats, the ones that were there)
