When you hear/see un allié a été tué

It wouldn't make sense for your ally to have summer killed

But it would make sense if it was a form of être(to be)

An ally has been slain
Un allié a été tué

If I say to you, ‘Wow, look at that palm tree’, is this the image that comes your mind?

Or if I told you that I saw a bat flying at night, would this be the image in your head?

I’m taking the piss a bit, sorry about that, but what Rémy said is true: Context is what determines it.

I’ve been told that you wanted to resign.

It’s clear which is why because you’ll never say, ‘Been was great’ or ‘I have summer told that you wanted to resign.’
