"faire" is a transitive verb. It's followed by a direct object, without any preposition inbetween.
"faire une erreur"

"faire de son mieux" is an idiom.

If the verb were to use a preposition, yes you would repeat said preposition.
ex: je sais jouer du piano et du violon
