Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Passe Compose and Imparfait
Imparfait is a simple tense (just like simple present: the verb is conjugated using appropriate suffixes) while passé composé is a compound tense (made of the auxiliary and the past participle).
"J'avais trouvé" is plus-que-parfait, a compound tense that uses imparfait for the auxiliary.
But when is it appropriate to use either? Is there a difference if I use “J’ai trouvé” vs “J’avais trouvé” vs “J’avais trouver”?
Trouver in imparfait is "je trouvais". As I said, it's a simple tense, not a compound one.

Plus-que-parfait is used for past events that happen before other past ones. Like "By the time he arrived at the office, I had finished all the paperwork".
