Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Le Passe Simple
well i think learning it takes a long time, it might be the most irregular tense
and the effort you will make into learning it won't worth it, as you will never use it lol
what you could do is knowing how to recognize it, just so you know that the sentence is in the past
otherwise... the benefits/costs ratio in terms of investment in learning the passé simple is unbalanced lol
but if you have questions you can ask ofc
I mean, should I know it as I want to start reading french literature
hmmm
maybe the irregular verbs (always the same ones lol: être, avoir, savoir, faire...)
otherwise, you will understand it quickly
for instance, if you read "nous mangeâmes", you should understand that it's the verb manger (it's quite clear)
but to read literature you don't have to know how to conjugate any verb in this simple, too much work 😭
With the passé simple, it’s enough to recognise it which anecdotally speaking takes like a week for me
