That’s technically the partitive : « de la » and for partitives you delete the article

faire de la natation -> ne pas faire de natation
faire du tennis -> ne pas faire de tennis
faire des courses -> ne pas faire de courses

How about using « jouer » instead of « faire ». For example, how should I negate: « Il joue au tennis ce soir »?
Should it be : « Il ne joue pas au tennis ce soir » ?

Because it’s an indirect object and not a partitive
