Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

There's a set of verbs that are conjugated with être in compound tenses like le passé composé; partir is one of them! Most of them are intransitive verbs of state/movement.

There are mnemonic devices such as DR & MRS VANDERTRAMP and La maison d'être to help remember them. They're very easy to find on Google.

You should also know that all pronominal verbs are conjugated with être in compound tenses. Je me suis réveillé -> I woke up

#

Verbs conjugated with être also have to agree with their subject in gender and number, in most cases.

Il s'est levé
Elle s'est réveillée
Elles sont parties

ETRE also comes with réflexif verbs, like je me... tu te...
for example: je me leve -> je me SUIS levé(e)(s)

This might just be hard for an english speaker to wrap their head around, but I'll try to explain how I see it. For certain verbs, in english's translation of it, you are BEING that verb? Hence the passe compose being "suis" as a form of "etre" ?
