Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

I already know the basics however I want to also know when it is appropriate to use (Ce, Ces, Cette, Cettes)

#

Additionally for (This One, That One, These Ones, Those Ones)

Hi asomi

#

You're talking about « ce, cet, cette, ces » and « celui, celle, ceux, celles » .

#

what is it exactly that you wish clarification on? Asking so we dont tell you things that you know already

I am looking for clarification for how to use them in a sentence (like genders and plural or singular)

Ah

#

Le livre - j'aime ce livre (this book)

La maison - j'habite dans cette maison (this house)

Les enfants - ces enfants sont trop mignons (these children)

#

Avec un mot masculin qui commence par une voyelle ou h aspiré, on utilise cet (pas cette)

L'ami - j'aime cet ami, mais je n'aime pas l'autre (this friend)

#

Par contre, celui, celle, celles and ceux are not used as adjectives but as subjects or objects

They can only be used

  • with -ci / -là
    « j'aime celui-ci » (i love this one)

  • with a clause using que / qui
    « je voudrais celle que je vois là »

  • before de + nom
    « je voudrais ceux de ma sœur »

#

Also
Celui = m
Celle = f
Ceux = m, plural
Celles = f, plural

#

S'il y a d'autres questions, n'hésite pas à les poser
