im studying with lawless french lessons and im struggling to understand this section. are rentrerai and rentre different tenses? and is the crossed out french example incorrect? the way theyre laid out is confusing me very much

Rentre = present tense

Rentrerai = future tense

Lawless is just trying to show you that in English, you use the present tense after “when” when talking about the future.

For example: I’ll do this when I am older.

As you can see, “I am” is in the present tense even though you’re not older right now - you’re talking about the future.

In French however, you must use the future tense in this situation.

You cannot say “je ferai ça quand je suis plus vieux”.

Instead, you have to say “je ferai ça quand je serai plus vieux, with the verb “être” in the future tense.
