need help in passe compose
What exactly do you struggle with? How to conjugate or when to use it, or something else?
a lot
passé composé is formed like this: personal pronoun(like je, tu, il, etc) then avoir/être at present tense, and then the verb written in passé compose form.
verbs that end with -er (like manger) are gonna take out the r and replace the e with é. so manger turns into mangé (J'ai mangé) . 2nd group (like finir) are gonna do the same thing but end with an i. so finir turns into fini (j'ai fini). now verbs that end with -re turn into u. so vendre would turn into vendu (j'ai vendu)
to go back to the 2nd part, where you have to use avoir or être, 95 percent of the time its gonna be avoir
the only ones that use être are: Devenir, Revenir, Monter, Retourner, Sortir, Venir, Aller, Naître, Descendre, Entrer, Rentrer, Tomber, Rester, Arriver, Mourir, Partir.
there are some more that use être, but these are the main ones
the main 2 past tenses that you'll use in french are the passé compose and the imparfait. passé compose is used when something happened and was completed in the past. for example: hier, j'ai fait mes devoirs( yesterday, i did my homework)
imparfait is used for the something that happened repeatedly, like a habit. je jouais au foot quand j'étais enfant (i used to play soccer when i was a kid).
its also used when something was in progress at a certain point in the past. like "hier je regardais la télé" (yesterday i was watching T.V.
and there are some exceptions like faire turns into fait (j'ai fait). être turns into été (J'ai été). avoir turns into eu (j'ai eu)
