Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
The source of my confusion:
The other possibility is that it’s just that one day…which is what the text itself seems to say. But I don’t understand why there would be obligatory school on just that one Saturday. But it also seems potentially strange to go ~2 months without the 9th half day, if the intent was to have 9 half days a week.
Without seeings the calendar, I can only rely on the part you quoted:
“Samedi travaillé : présence obligatoire des
enfants en élémentaire : le 30 novembre 2024”
And to me that sounds like students are exceptionally expected to be at school on that one Saturday: November 30th 2024
I'm not sure where you got "half days" or "from that date forward" from
Thanks. That also makes sense.
I assumed there was implied cultural context about what an elementary school week schedule looks like.
Actually, I guess that’s not totally true. In another document I see:
“Horaires de classe
Les élèves ont classe les lundis, mardis, jeudis et vendredis de 8h45 à 11h30 pour les
maternelles et 12h15 les élémentaires ; puis de 13h45 à 16h30 pour les maternelles
et 16h35 pour les élémentaires.
Samedis travaillés uniquement pour les élémentaires (cf.calendrier) : de 9h00 à
12h00.
Il n’y a pas classe le mercredi.”
Which still leaves me confused about whether there is exactly one Saturday school for the whole year or whether they start from nov. 30, or something else…
Samedis travaillés uniquement pour les élémentaires (cf.calendrier) : de 9h00 à
12h00.
That clears up the "half day" part.
But yeah, the fact that "samedis" is plural here but singular in the November 30th mention is indeed confusing, so if I was trying to understand my child's calendar and this was the available information, I would contact the school.
