Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

unless the child you're talking to is royalty
You can use « tu » with kids right until they graduate High School pretty much, the only context where you’d use « vous » is if you’re a school counselor trying to scold them or something along those lines
