Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
passé simple is never used outside of novels. Don't bother learning it.
Passé composé is the default tense to refer to events in the past.
For example, "Yesterday I ate a pizza" is "Hier j'ai mangé une pizza".
The verb "manger" is in the passé composé tense.
ohh okay thank you !
If you ever want to read you’ll have to know the passé simple so I would recommend knowing at least to recognise it
The patterns are very simple
"never" is a bit of an exaggeration - it's used in narration, which is usually used in books, but can come up in other contexts (movie narration, campfire stories, etc)
