Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

"être" doesn't care about objects. The past participle always agrees with the subject.

  • Elle est partie. (agreement with the subject "elle")

when using "avoir", the past participle never agrees with the subject. It does agree with the object when it's direct and placed before the verb.

  • Elle a vu. (no object, no agreement)
  • Elle a vu ses amis. (the object is placed after the verb, no agreement)
  • Elle les a vus (the object is direct and placed before the verb, agreement with "les")
  • Elle leur a demandé. (the object is placed before the verb but is indirect, no agreement)

Usage of pronom relatif can also let past participle agree with verb's object

Les fleurs que j'ai achetées.

The object of the verb acheter is placed before the verb so there is a agreement. (féminin, pluriel )
