Salut, even I had not heard of that word until now but after some research I think I can conclude that it's the same word in English as well, which actually means ridiculous, ugly or strange. For example- Cette excuse est grotesque.
Which also means it's not a non, it's an adjectif!

my confusion stemmed fro mthe fact that is used as a noun in French, The adjective I knew well, but had never seen it used as a noun.
