Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.
Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
"en étant cruel" means "while being cruel" or" by being cruel".
while "étant cruel" just means "being cruel"
So "Le monde, étant cruel, l'ignore" would make sense. "The world, being cruel, ignores him".
But "Le monde, en étant cruel, l'ignore", while grammatically correct, is strange in terms of its meaning. It would mean that the world ignores him by being cruel. Logically that doesn't really work.
The world ignores him because it's a cruel world, not by means of being a cruel world.
