Please be patient

Our volunteers look into many questions every day; sometimes it takes them a little while to answer.

Pro tip: you can rename the thread title with `.tr <thread name>`

Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

Inversion

@regal knoll No it is still used today. It is certainly more formal, yes. You'll certainly hear it a lot if you request a service, like getting a hotel for a night, etc.

#

Even at the supermarket, you're likely to hear

Avez-vous notre carte de points bonus?

#

Avez-vous besoin d'un sac?

#

Avez-vous trouvé tout ce dont il vous faut?

#

etc.

What about in informal speech just between friends for instance

Very rarely. We use "est-ce que" sometimes in the informal as well, or we just say it as if it was a statement, but with a question intonation.

Est-ce que t'as vu ça!?
T'as vu ça!?

Both are fine, but "as-tu vu ça!?" is too formel.

Although, I do sometimes ask my friends, "as-tu faim?" in text messages because I want an excuse to buy Uber Eats 😅
