Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.

You can think of this negative "de" like "any"
"I don't have any cats"
You wouldn't say "I don't have any five cats"

Also, cinq*

Je n'ai pas de chat => I don't have any cats (I have zero cats)
Je n'ai pas cinq chats => I don't have five cats (I might have more or less cats, but not five)
