idk man. google says elle replaces lui for feminin in most cases except for complement dobjet indirect. So ig they just thought "Je elle donne..." or anything else sounds weird and were too lazy to make another word. It's more simple this way imo there's enough to remember

also ig probably not a reason they (as in the posh aristocrats that shaped french language) were thinking of, but ig just having one word, "lui" also is more inclusive for people that don't identify as female nor male
