"j'ai su" is passé composé. It describes the change of state from not knowing to knowing.
==> "I found out"

"je savais" is imparfait. It describes the state of knowing.
==> "I was aware".

"se souvenir" is always reflexive and means "to remember".
"je me suis souvenu" = I remembered.

The non-reflexive form like in your screenshot is never used.
