I'm quite unsure actually, semantically it sounds weird.

But "leur" is the indirect object, and I assume it's anaphoric to "ils'.
So it puts the emphasis not on the country being cut in half, but on the subject having its land cut in half, I guess.

I would've written it without it for sure, it's quite strange.

It would have been far more natural in a sentence like: ils craignent que la Cisjordanie ne leur soit prise
