Make it descriptive, including relevant context, but also to the point. This way you improve your chances of getting a more relevant and specific answer.
Unless you're planning to talk about boxing with people who use boxing jargon, I don't see the point of specifically learning that definition.
As for why it's masculine, I would imagine that that comes from "gauche" originally being an adjective that describes a hit/hook. Un poing gauche / un crochet gauche.
It seems weird to me, since a hit with the right fist is "une droite".
"Il lui a mis une belle droite !"
But I also know nothing about boxing.
